KIRIBURU: A Hidden Beauty

Wrapped in the lap of nature and dipped with scenic beauty Kiriburu is perfect for a mountain getaway. Kiriburu is a census town in Jharkhand. The town is mainly known for having big Iron-ore Mines KIOM & MIOM both governed by the Steel Authority of India Limited. This place has a very rich and diverse history. In 1960 the Russians first discovered iron ore in Kiriburu and during that time Tata discovered iron ore in Jamshedpur and therefore nearby places were tested to discover more resources. The Russians under the authority of the Indian Government found iron ore here. Kiriburu was full of forest and a large number of elephants resided there. In their native language, Kiri means elephant and Buru means forests and that’s how it came to be known as Kiriburu, forests filled with elephants

The Russians established the first mine known as Kiriburu iron ore mine. 10 years later the Japanese established Meghahatuburu iron ore mines nearby. Saranda forest located here is the largest deciduous forest in Asia. It’s really interesting that Kiriburu hilltop is located in Odisha and the lower parts are located in Jharkhand…


Sunrise point and sunset point

Sunrise point at the top of Kiriburu hills is the main point of attraction. As the sun slowly rises amidst the hills and clouds and radiates energy and peace. Sunset point is located Meghahatuburu and that’s where the sun finally settles back among the hills.

Saranda is a forest of 700 hills. From the sunset point, you can get a glimpse of 700 hills spreading across a large area and adding to the beauty of the slowly diving sun.


Kiriburu is endowed with lots of waterfalls. The sound of the fast flowing water as it crashes against the rocks makes you happy and emits positivity in its surroundings. The water is crystal clear and pure. It is the gift of nature for us to enjoy…


Kiriburu has awesome mountain weather. Foggy and cold weather during winter and a cool climate during summer make this place a perfect place to chill. Snowfall used to occur till 1980 but has stopped due to deforestation. It easily receives 200mm of rainfall. Tourist usually comes here for trekking and to connect with mother nature. Therefore it is an awesome place to hang out with your friends and love ones. Spend a few days here to escape the hustle of city life…
